2026 EVENTS
Below is the signup list for NIWA's annual events. Please review it and sign up for those events you would like to work in person.
Transport - We are looking for someone who can transport the equipment and books to and from the events. Please take note of the times. Transporters will need to contact our Storage Librarians, Tom McConnell and Rachel Carter, to arrange for pick up and return. ([email protected])
Leads: Think of the Lead as a Manager of the Booth and Staff. You don't have to be present for the entire event but read the duties carefully.
Duties:
Staff Members:
Dress and Grooming:
ALL members staffing the NIWA table are to dress in "business casual" attire - neat and clean shirts, jeans or casual slacks - absolutely no sweatpants or workout attire. No T-shirts with slogans (unless they apply to your books or NIWA - but they must not have stretched out collars or stains). Keep in mind, you want to give readers a good impression of yourself and your work. Additionally, you represent NIWA.
ALL staff members should wear a lanyard with the NIWA name tag so visitors to the booth know to whom they can ask questions.
Sign up for as many events and shifts as you wish.

Duties:
- Assist with setup, make sure the Square Terminal is connected to the hotspot and that the cashier knows how to use it - stay at least for the first few sales to be sure all is okay if you aren't going to work a shift, but know you can stay and work if you wish.
- Return to assist with closing up the booth for multi-day events. Take the cash box, electronics and battery power source home and charge overnight. Return the next morning to assist with reopening the booth.
- At the end of the event, assist with the tear down, count the cash in the cash box and leave a note in the cashbox with your total. Pack it all up and send it with the person doing the transport back to storage.
Staff Members:
- ALL staff members are to assist with either setup or tear down.
- The ideal goal for Staff members is to sell at least 1 copy of every book on the table.
- Since you are working the event, you are allowed to bring additional copies of your books to the event in a small tote (12" x 16" for example). There isn't a lot of room to store mass quantities. When your shift is finished you must take all your unsold extra books home with you. Leaving only the copy limit for the event on the table.
- Staff members should arrive at least 10 minutes prior to their shift and be ready to step in when your shift begins. This is especially important for the cashiers. The morning cashier should not leave until the new cashier has rung up a sale or they express they are confident they can handle the Square.
