AUTHOR INTERVIEWS
NIWA has launched a new series of video interviews hosted by Pat Luther. The first episode, featuring Kimila Kay, is now live on the NIWA website. New interviews will be released every Friday at 8 a.m. Pacific for the next year. Members interested in being featured should contact [email protected] to schedule. Priority goes to authors with new releases, and the current wait time is 2–3 months.
Paty Jagerwill be at the Friends of the Lebanon Library Author Event on February 28. On May 2, she’ll speak to the Boise Romance Writer of America chapter about the difference between marketing and promotion.
Kimila Kayhas agreed to coordinate NIWA’s upcoming in-person meet-and-greet, planned for March in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. Anyone interested in helping her should contact [email protected]

THIS MONTH’S SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON …
Matt Whitaker
Matt Whitaker is a first-time author who released their first book, 366 Days of One-Hit Wonders, in May 2024. They’ve always had a goal of publishing a book and was able to combine their love for writing and music into this book. Becoming an author has been an adventure and getting to connect with other authors and hear their creative process has made it an even more enjoyable one.
NIWA:First, please tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
I can touch my nose with my tongue.
NIWA: What’s your favorite element?

NIWA:Which famous celebrity would you want to have lunch with and why?
Rob Halford from Judas Priest. I would want to know how he decided to become a heavy metal legend and the name of his stylist.
Harkin County has its share of skeletons. However, when a previously hidden skeleton surfaces in Bone Creek, the assignment falls to the Special Operations division at the FBI. Buried deep in the section of California known as The Free State of Jefferson, the local office doesn't want anything to do with Harkin County.
Special Agent Nash Running Bear has her misgivings about returning to the small town she grew up in. But she only wants to think of two reasons she is right for the investigation.
She doesn't want to think about the vision she has been having. She's not her mother.
Old racial slights and hatred for outsiders, don't make looking for more bones any easier... nor does the appearance of an old high school fling.

JANUARY ZOOM
January’s Zoom meeting began as an informal chat about the fascinating people writers meet during research, and quickly expanded to people met at events, the origins of location names, and other subjects writers find interesting.
The group discussed the value (and fun) of occasional online meetings that allow for free-flowing conversation. Attendees agreed it would be best to aim for a balance between educational, presenter-led sessions, and informal chats during the year.
NIWA Zoom chats are held the second Tuesday of the month from 7-8 PM. They are NOT recorded so please attend as they will not be available for later viewing. The theme and a link to the meeting can be found under the events tab on theNIWA Facebook Page.
SOCIAL MEDIA DIRECTOR This person is responsible for posting on social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.
