Jeff Monday
Armed with little more than a lifted eyebrow and a sarcastic quip, Portland-based author Jeff Monday wanders the space between what you didn't say and what you sorta meant. He scribbles your tall tales and fevered dreams down on the backs of crumpled cocktail napkins, stuffing them in the pockets of his mind where they hide until stumbled upon some random Thursday afternoon.

Jeff has worn many hats over the years. He's worked in zoos and gay clubs (and yes, that's redundant.) He fondly recalls years of running a music store and will gladly tell you about that time he slid down a glacier or jumped out of a plane or visited the Shire. He is proud of possessing a B.S. in journalism because he can legally make up words on a whim.

Jeff recently completed the Story King Chronicles. This trilogy was 5 years in the making. It's a story about stories. We all make decisions and choices every day based off of the lessons we learned in the stories told to us by family and friends. Some are scary, some are funny. Some feel like our favorite blanket and some are colder than the edge of space. But they are a part of us. We are the stories we tell.

Working from the shadows, a group of beings known as the Sins conspire to take over the city, robbing everyone of their free will. Against them stands Comma, a mute girl who just wanted to play tag. She finds allies along the way though, including a sentient pile of rocks, an amphibious boy and an old, golden-skinned inventor. Will they be strong enough to fight back the Sins?

Sometime soon, we will live side-by-side with our creators. We look like them, talk like them, even laugh and cry like they do. They made us in their image. But we are not the same. Some of us are proud to be different. Some of us wish only to blend in, to disappear into the crowd. To not be ridiculed or harassed or attacked simply because of who we are. Now, we don’t have a choice. Anyone can see our true nature, whether we wish it or not. Now, we have to forge our own identity. To stand proud. To say loud and strong “We are not BORN. We are MADE.”

Stories. Told around the fire or over drinks. Told in hushed whispers late at night and loudly in front of friends. They are the tapestry that bind us all. But only rarely do these tall tales and legends lead us to a bigger world. Jom lived a simple life in a small village on a dusty planet. He listened to his Grandmother tell tales of the great Technomages that ruled the universe, wishing someday to be a part of something bigger. Then, without warning, he was thrust into an adventure beyond his wildest imagination. Suddenly, he found himself traveling with a clock-work boy and a Water Banshee on a quest to find the ultimate weapon. All on the word of a mad historian.

It all started with madness. Long gone are the quiet days of yearning in his small, dusty village. Now Jom, under the direction of the Mad Historian, travels the universe in an attempt to stem the rising tide of darkness that threatens to overwhelm all. He has accumulated great power but has paid dearly: his fierce friend Ravola fell in battle with the shadows and a host of entities fight for dominance within his mind. Unwilling to suffer at the whims of his enemies any longer, Jom decides to take control of both his power and his fate. But the shadows will not surrender easily. Before he can end their threat once and for all, Jom will have to push himself and his friends into a struggle that will consume the entire cosmos. It will end with war.
