It’s been five long years since Gerard left home. Shipwrecked in the South Pacific, he was forced to grow up and find his way in the world. Now he has found a ship and a way home; but wonders how much has changed in his absence.

Are his parents still alive? Does he still have a home? Do the Duke and Duchess still reside in the castle? Does he still have a job as gamekeeper? Will Princess Sophie remember him? Will anyone remember him?

Gerard is still captain but for how much longer? The owners want somebody older with more experience. His ship is full of holes and needs considerable repairs. Dancing with pirate ships is dangerous work.

The young captain must fight to hold onto what he has. To protect his crew, to protect his family, and to keep his promises. The ones he made to others, and the ones he made to himself. If he can do all of that, then all he needs to worry about are the pirates who want him dead.
